You may feel nervous if you have recently been scheduled to get an MRI for the first time. However, knowing what will happen can make you feel less anxious. Here are a few things you can expect when you visit an Open MRI Center that will help you prepare for the visit.

Radio waves and powerful magnets are used during an MRI to create images of areas inside your body. Many choose to visit an Open MRI Center to get an MRI as opposed to having a CT scan or an x-ray done since MRIs don’t use radiation.

Before having an MRI, you want to talk with your healthcare provider about any medical concerns you have. This is especially true if you have a pacemaker or a metal implant. When you go in for the MRI, you will be asked to remove your glasses, hearing aids, and metal jewelry. Depending on the type of MRI you are having done, you may be asked to fast for a few hours.

You will need to change into a hospital gown before starting the procedure. You will be asked to lie down on a table that will slide into the MRI machine. Most people feel comfortable while the procedure is done since newer MIR machines are comfortable and spacious. Talk with the technician before the treatment if you are worried about feeling claustrophobic.
