An MRI is often ordered so that your doctor can get a better image of a certain area of your body when there are questions or concerns. When you arrive for your scan, there are a few things that you can do to ease your nerves while preparing for the scan itself.
Safety
Alert the technician of any health issues that you might have when you arrive at the Orlando MRI center. These could be heart conditions, any metal implants that you have, a pacemaker, pregnancy or the possibility of being pregnant, or any allergies. You should leave valuables with someone else or at home so that they aren’t lost while you’re at the appointment.
Anxiety
Since a traditional MRI machine is designed like an enclosed tube, you need to let the technician know if you’re claustrophobic or if you have issues with anxiety. If so, then you could be scheduled for an open MRI if there is one available at an imaging center or hospital. Medications can be prescribed to help calm your nerves if there is not an open MRI available.
The Scan
The length of time spent at the MRI center will depend on the area of the body that is scanned and the details that your doctor wants to see. You will probably hear a loud noise while the machine is on, but you can wear earplugs to block out most of the sound. The technician will let you know if you need to hold your breath or if you need to remain still during the scan.
